I slept like a baby, even though I knew I had to wake up early because we were scheduled to leave the hotel we’d been staying in for the past two nights. I made sure all my belongings were packed so I wouldn’t forget anything and planned to be down for breakfast at 8:30 AM. Well, that didn’t go as planned. I ended up being 30 minutes late, and I felt terrible for holding everyone up.
Despite the rough start, we had an exciting day ahead of us. We went sightseeing and explored a real castle (Castilla Benavente) an actual castle where kings and queens once lived! We even saw the areas they used for defence during wars. The architecture was truly stunning; I was in complete awe of its grandeur. Everything was so beautiful and massive. The views from the rooftop were breathtaking, although the steep stairs were a bit of a challenge for me. It made me wonder how people back then managed to navigate them daily.
After the castle tour, we headed to Señor’s mom’s house for lunch, which, as always, was a hit. Her food is absolutely delicious, and her home exudes warmth and comfort. She reminds me of my grandmother with her kind and welcoming nature. She never lets us help her with anything, which makes me feel a bit guilty because helping out is one way we could show our gratitude. I left the table so full, but Cris informed us that at our next stop, they had prepared another lunch for us. Out of courtesy, we’d have to eat again, even though we were already stuffed.
Next, we hit the road. Most of us passed out during the drive and woke up when we arrived in Zamora. At the new hotel, we got our room assignments and headed out for the second lunch. To our surprise, it wasn’t just a polite obligation—the food was genuinely delicious! Afterward, we went on a walk to Señor’s sister’s house, catching glimpses of the sunset along the way.
On our walk back to the hotel, the streets were bustling with activity. It seems Spaniards come alive after 5 PM. The streets looked vibrant, and I loved the energy. Later, we visited a mall, mostly for window shopping. Some people made purchases, but most of us are probably waiting for better deals or saving for other items since the trip is still in its early stages.
We made a small detour for tapas and drinks at a cozy spot. Unfortunately, all the tables were booked, so we had to stand the entire time. Still, the vibe was nice, and it added to the experience.
We returned to the hotel around 9:30 PM for dinner, where we had an amazing pumpkin soup. After saying goodnight, a group of us hung out to play cards until we were all too tired to continue and headed to bed.
Overall, the day was fantastic, even though my morning started on a low note. I had so much fun, and the experiences and memories I made are absolutely priceless!
