#I Am Going To Spain Project Updating

Who Are We?

We are a group of students of Spanish, most of us from the University of Namibia (UNAM). Along with our Spanish lecturers, Mario Prada and Jesús Lasso, and the coordinator of this project, Cristina L. Prada, we are fundraising to enable our Spanish students to visit Spain and apply the language they have been learning over the past few years in a 12-day trip.

Due to the economic circumstances affecting Namibia, one of the countries with the highest economic inequality ratio in the world, this journey would be a dream for many. However, as the limit is only imagination, we hope to achieve it with the help of everyone.

What Do We Need?

We need at least 1,000 euros per student to cover the cost of airfare, transportation within Spain, accommodation, and meals.

To achieve this, we have been participating in markets in Windhoek for months, selling Spanish food and drinks such as empanadas, Spanish tortilla and sangría. Additionally, we have been organizing trivia nights related to Hispanic and Namibian culture, where we collect 2 euros from each participant. We are also selling raffle tickets with prizes provided by some businesses in Windhoek. You can take a look at all our progress on the blog.

Despite all our efforts, the possibility of raising the necessary budget through these channels is slim. Therefore, we have decided to give more visibility to this projectby setting up this crowfunding webpage that allows us to receive donations in exchange for classes in the various languages we speak: Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Afrikaans, German, and several native languages of Namibia. This way, you can practice the language you are learning and, at the same time, help us make the dream of traveling to Spain come true.

The Impact

The importance of carrying out this project is crucial for the students involved in it. The time, energy, and effort they have dedicated must materialize in the realization of this study trip. The lives and potential of our students could positively change by being exposed to such a diverse environment at such a young age.

For the majority of our students of Spanish, with an average age of 20 years old, undertaking this journey on their own would be unattainable. Hopefully, with the contribution, empathy, and assistance of everyone, we can make this beautiful dream come true.

Other Ways You Can Help

If you are unable to contribute financially, it would also be great support for us if you could help spread the word about this initiative among your loved ones. Perhaps they might be able to support us directly. Thank you very much!
